If you are a wine lover, then Croatia is a perfect country for you! We have a lot of delicious wines which are famous worldwide. If you love black, white wine or rose you are just in right place. I will lead you through our most famous places and wineries which produce splendid wines. I will start at Istria and end in Dalmatia, so wherever you decide to travel you will have information what to try and where to go.

ISTRIA

When you come to this beautiful and biggest Croatia peninsula you will find some delicious wines, olive oil and a famous Croatian drink that is called “rakija”. Moderate Mediterranean climate, which is conditioned by the sea currents and seemingly constant breezes, made Istria possible to have at least four viticulture-wise fertile soil types. That kind of different climate and the sea is primarily meritorious for multitude of wine varieties. Cultivated sorts in Istria are, starting from the most cultivated Malvasia, Muscat, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Trebianno Toscano, Zlahtina, Red Merlot, Teran, Cabernet Sauvignon, Refosk, Borgonja, Cabernet Franc, and a little of Hrvatica, Barbera, Pinot Noir, and Syrah. With this much different types of wine, I do not have to exhort you into going for that wine tour that I have been suggesting ever since we began this blog. Also I always highly suggest to visit the company in Istria which produces exclusive traditional products such as brandies, jams and other autochthonous products made of wild herbs and wild fruits picked in an ecologically clean environment on the slopes of the Cicarija mountain far from roads and inhabited settlements. As I said before, Istria is a great location to spend your vacation.

DALMATIA

In this part of the text I will introduce some wines which are specific for this part of the country, for instance we have here our sunniest island HVAR, then we have a place called MALI STON where regarding wines you can also try fresh oysters (yum!), and of course the place we never forget to mention the great gem of Croatia DUBROVNIK.

So let’s start with our island HVAR! The sunniest island has a proud history of wine making, which dates back to the ancient Greeks when they first planted their vines in 384. BC in Stari Grad, which is an UNESCO World heritage site. Vineyards are spread across the island and carefully nurtured to produce the best crops. It is no wonder that over the centuries this tradition has been perfected in order to create some of the world’s best renowned wines. One of the most famous wines are: Prč, Pošip, Plavac mali, Darnekuša and Bogdanuša. Let me tell you, those are some great wines. So, if you decide to visit Hvar, feel free to contact us so we can make this trip even better for you!

The next stop is a small but very unique place called MALI STON. You can visit Mali Ston as a regular tour or maybe while in transfer because it is on approx. halfway from Split to Dubrovnik. In Mali Ston we can offer you the once in a lifetime experience. I had a chance to visit the family winery which has become very popular in Croatia. They will tell you all about the great wine Plavac, and as I saw those wine yards, I was really amazed. Beside those wine yards, and very interesting stories you can go off road with them in their jeeps and have an even better view on all the vineyards that provide such delicious wines. One thing that we always highly recommend are oyster tasting. You will be able to see how oysters are pulled from the sea and of course have a taste. As one of our treasure is our rich Adriatic Sea, this is an authentic opportunity that would be pity to miss.

In our beautiful historical gem DUBROVNIK, we also have some wines that are worth giving a taste. Upon discovering this town, which provides so much stories and has so much museums and sightseeing which are breathtaking you can try wines such as Rukatac, Grk and Dubrovnik’s Malvasia. We also have tours that include winetasting while discovering and learning stories about this town. Dubrovnik has a lot of pubs, and places where you can enjoy the wine and have a view on our beautiful Adriatic Sea.

I just gave you a sneak-peak what Croatia provides regarding wines. There are so many other things that you can do while you are here. I hope you will come and enjoy everything that Croatia provides, and have a wonderful time.
